Portimao Transfers

Faro is the nearest international airport to Portimao. The excellent Faro-Lagos motorway makes this area in the western Algarve easily accessible and the journey time is approximately 30 minutes by road. Other travel options are bus, train, taxi, private transfer or car hire.

This is the most popular mode of transport as there are so many beautiful places to explore in this area which are not accessible by public transport and your own car gives you total freedom. On the right hand side of the terminal building at Faro Airport you will see the bus stop. To get to Portimao you will need to get a bus to the main terminus in Faro town and then change. A detailed timetable can be accessed by clicking on www.eva-bus.net.

There is no railway station at the airport, but you can catch a train outside Faro town to Portimao. The Algarve Line is a single line which runs along the coastline throughout the day with a journey time of 15 minutes and a cost of one euro. However, be warned that the timetable can be rather erratic with the trains running every one to two hours and the station at Portimao is a bit of a trek outside town.

The taxi rank is at the far end of the arrivals concourse. The main airport taxis take a maximum of four people plus luggage. Prices vary for travel between 06.00-22.00 and 22.00-06.00 hours, and a rough guide is €77 for day transfers and €100 at night. If you are lucky enough to find a vehicle that will take 5-6 passengers this will cost €90/€118 on the above basis and 7-8 passengers will cost between €104/€135.
